Our History.
From a travel business in early 20th-century Aberdeen to a specialist travel management company supporting energy, offshore and marine organisations around the world, Munro’s has evolved alongside the industries we serve.
What has stayed the same is our belief that great travel management starts with understanding people, their work and what is at stake when they need to get somewhere.

1903 — Where it all began.
Munro’s story began in Aberdeen in 1903, when we were known as Munro’s Tourist Agency.
For much of our early history, we were a traditional travel agency, helping people from Aberdeen and the surrounding area plan their holidays, journeys and adventures. Long before online booking and instant travel information, choosing a trip meant relying on the knowledge and experience of the people behind the desk.
That meant knowing the destinations, understanding the routes and taking the time to help each customer find the right way to get there.
It was a very different world of travel, but the importance of personal service was already clear.
And while the way people travel has changed enormously since then, that principle has stayed with us: understanding where people need to go, and being there to help them get there.
A changing world of travel.

From railways and steamships to the age of flight.
The way people travelled was changing rapidly.
Rail and sea travel had opened up the world to more people, while commercial aviation was beginning to transform the idea of international travel. Holidays that once seemed out of reach were becoming increasingly accessible, and the role of the travel agent was evolving with them.
Munro’s grew alongside those changes, helping customers navigate new destinations, new routes and new ways of travelling.
Travel was becoming faster and more accessible — but it still relied heavily on people who knew how to make the journey work.
Growing with Aberdeen.
As Aberdeen developed through the middle of the 20th century, so did the business around it.
Munro’s became an established name in the city, operating from premises including Crown Street and Union Street.
By the 1960s and early 1970s, Munro’s Tourist Agency was not simply arranging holidays; the business was part of everyday life in Aberdeen, from travel and excursions to tickets for local events.
The world beyond Aberdeen was becoming increasingly connected, and the business was ready to help people make the most of it.

1973 — A new industry that changes everything.
In 1973, Munro’s began its journey into specialist energy-sector travel.
It was a defining moment for the business — and one that would shape the next five decades of our story.
